Human Resources Handbook and Policies:
By Stefanie Allweiss

You will learn why it is important for your school to have in place written personnel policies and procedures for your staff and students that effectively express the school’s mission, its legal obligations and the school’s expectations about performance and behaviors. We will discuss the potential risks and liability by not having certain policies in place. We will also distinguish whose responsibility it is to draft and review various policies (the Board’s role vs. Senior Management). You will learn about the importance of drafting policies that accurately reflect your expectations, and how to best implement these policies once they are in place and to ensure they are applied consistently and fairly. Finally, we will discuss what personnel policies are required or recommended by law or regulation; what policies should be drafted as “best practice”; and finally, those policies that are “optional”, but will serve to describe the unique character of your school.

Here is the PowerPoint document that accompanied the speech.
